Hillary Michelle Photography


We were so excited to have the kids' pictures made by a great photographer and a friend of ours
from church, Hillary Holder. Hillary is so amazingly kind and patient, and she made the entire experience a pleasure (Very unusual since picture day is usually a day I break out in hives). And my children were very true to form on this particular day, acting like unruly beasts. I jokingly say I am cursed with kids that can be precious, but no one will ever know because they act like hellions whenever they see a camera. I can't think of a time, other than with Hillary, that our picture taking time didn't involve tears!


At any rate, after spending the morning with Hillary and the beasts, I remember saying to Matt, "Poor Hillary worked so hard, and there is no way she got any decent shots!" Boy was I wrong! The pictures were great by any standard, but you would have had to have witnessed how badly my children misbehaved and how difficult they made this process for Hillary to fully appreciate how amazing her work is! I especially appreciate how she captured the different aspects of both Sophie and Will's personalities. And even though we wouldn't blame her if she never returned our phone calls, we can't wait to have her take pictures of the kids again, especially when Lillie arrives! Sometimes when Matt is home for extended periods of time, as he was during the week of Thanksgiving, he has the opportunity to notice new things about our children. Not that he isn't connected to them - he is an amazing, hands-on, intentional dad, but the fact that he spends much of his time at work means that there are little "joys" his misses out on.  One of the little "joys" he misses most of the time is the opportunity to spend long periods of time in the car with our kids. Happy 31st Birthday!

Happy 31st Birthday Matt! Most people say things like, "I can hardly believe it's been a year since we fill-in-the blank... My, where does the time go???" Well, I know where the time since your last birthday has gone. It's been right here backing over us like a mack truck! All I can think as I remember last Halloween is how has it only been one year since you were celebrating your 30th birthday by going to a Halloween bash designed for teenagers while Aunt Pam and I took the kids trick-or-treating in the rain? It seems like at least three years ago since you and I were in the house with a princess throwing a fit about something while Aunt Pam was on the front porch knocking on the door to let us know our dragon had just made himself throw up to avoid wearing his costume. Baby Lillie

We were so thrilled to welcome Lillian Hope Roden into our family on Monday, January 18 at 4:49 p.m. Baby Lillie is the peanut of our family, weighing in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces. She is 19 inches long with lots of blonde, fuzzy hair! There is so very much I want to say, but so very few brain cells left, so for now, I will say that we are overwhelmingly grateful for a healthy baby girl, a smooth delivery, and the most amazing family and best friend to support us. Until more coherent thoughts can be strung together, we will be recovering, enjoying family, and getting to know Lillie.
