Letters to Zoe


Well, we can hardly wait to hear that Tori and Derek pass court in the morning, so we can start counting down the days until we meet Zoe! In the mean time, we are going to write some letters to our precious girl, both to help the time pass more quickly for us, and so she will have a written record of how much we loved and prayed for her even before we met her!

Dear Zoe,
Hi sweet girl! This is your Aunt Carrie! I can hardly sleep tonight waiting to hear if we get to start our countdown to
meeting you! We are going to write you some letters to help you get to know all the members of our whole big family! I will introduce you to your Uncle Matt (the crazy one), and your cousins Sophie (the ring-leader), Will (the half bull/half boy)and Lillie (the sweetest baby ever). The Rodens are a wild bunch, but we are definitely not boring! Then, you will also meet your Patti-Grams, Tato, and Aunt Hope! And that's just the beginning of your family!

Well, I have lots to tell you! Especially funny stories about your mama and daddy! But for tonight, I want to tell you what I'm most looking forward to doing with you. Well, first, I am pretty much known as the family librarian, so I'm your go-to girl for trips to the library, any kind of story hour, and visits to the bookstore! And should you ever have a particular story you want to read, just say the word! Also, I'm a pretty good outing planner. Parks, museums, exhibits, special events, you name it, I will try to keep you busy experiencing all our area has to offer. And when we travel, well, that just gives us tons more places to explore together! And last (for tonight), I am so excited to play baby dolls with you. I heard that you absolutely love babies, and I absolutely love babies, so I think we are going to have a ball playing babies together!

Well, Sophie also wrote you a letter today! Now your cousin Will still has some confusion about whether you are a girl or a dog! (The only Zoe he knows is our good friend, Ms. Paula's dog, so until he actually meets you, I think he may stay a bit confused). Don't be surprised if he tells you not to bite him in his letter to you! But Sophie knows exactly who you are, and she has written you tons of letters and drawn you even more pictures! This one is from today, and it was handwritten in one of her notebooks, but I'm copying it (misspellings and all) onto the blog so all the letters will be in one place.

Dear Zoe,
Remeanber I love you! And Momma and Daddy will take care of you! Live, learn, life!

Sophie's 8th Birthday

Sophie had one of her most perfect days on her 8th birthday, and I loved that we were able to give her a dream-come-true day! She woke up to a birthday breakfast, but without our typical doughnuts because we were headed straight for the Franklin Farmer's Market. We showered her with art supplies and an Ariel birthday sign, and she was thrilled about all of them!  At the Farmer's Market, Sophie roamed around like the gypsy she is, thrilled to have $10 (instead of her usual $5) to spend! You can't imagine how much Sophie can buy with $10 at the Farmer's Market! When honey sticks are going for a quarter, that can make for a long day! It was hotter than blue blazes, and we'd brought Aunt Tori, Uncle Derek, Aunt Hope, and Zoe, so over half our crew had to head inside The Factory before Soph had finished her shopping, but not before we all enjoyed treats and lunch from Biscuit Love!  After the Farmer's Market, we all head to Honey's, a new candy

Happy 31st Birthday!

Happy 31st Birthday Matt! Most people say things like, "I can hardly believe it's been a year since we fill-in-the blank... My, where does the time go???" Well, I know where the time since your last birthday has gone. It's been right here backing over us like a mack truck! All I can think as I remember last Halloween is how has it only been one year since you were celebrating your 30th birthday by going to a Halloween bash designed for teenagers while Aunt Pam and I took the kids trick-or-treating in the rain? It seems like at least three years ago since you and I were in the house with a princess throwing a fit about something while Aunt Pam was on the front porch knocking on the door to let us know our dragon had just made himself throw up to avoid wearing his costume. The Bane Bane Game

This was one of the last things I saw before collapsing in the bed last night. I went to check on Soph and Will, and when I saw them holding hands asleep, I almost heard God laughing-ly whisper, "this blessing was brought to you courtesy of the condo!" So, I went downstairs, grabbed the camera, and whispered back my thanks for children that are getting to, not having to experience sharing a room. Several hours later (though I would have sworn it was only a few minutes), I'm sleeping peacefully, with Lillie and Matt tucked in beside me, only to see two grinning roosters, loudly crowing, "Happy Bane Bane Day! Happy Bane Bane Day! Come downstairs and have your breakfast! We've played the Bane Bane Game!" Jolted awake, I yelled at Matt to check the time. He was meant to be at the office by 9 today, and I was so upset that we'd somehow slept through our alarm.
