With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

"The boy" turned five, and it came as no surprise to anyone who's had a conversation with him in the past year that he wanted a superhero birthday party! He's fairly obsessed with all things superhero, and his absolutely favorite is Spiderman. Will had a great actual birthday (Matt stayed home from work, we went to an indoor play park where he ran into a buddy, and then we celebrated with the family at Aunt Pammie's). But his birthday party was like watching his dreams come true. We had superhero training at an indoor play park, but in reality, it was he and his buddies, playing their hearts out being as rough as they could be and then topping it off with cake, lemonade, and sno-cones! Of course, Mr. glass half-empty nearly had a meltdown because his party was "too short," but at least I knew that he had the time of his life! The highlight of the party was when his friends made a tunnel and he rode a motorized bike through the tunnel of friends chant...

The Bane Bane Game

This was one of the last things I saw before collapsing in the bed last night. I went to check on Soph and Will, and when I saw them holding hands asleep, I almost heard God laughing-ly whisper, "this blessing was brought to you courtesy of the condo!" So, I went downstairs, grabbed the camera, and whispered back my thanks for children that are getting to, not having to experience sharing a room. Several hours later (though I would have sworn it was only a few minutes), I'm sleeping peacefully, with Lillie and Matt tucked in beside me, only to see two grinning roosters, loudly crowing, "Happy Bane Bane Day! Happy Bane Bane Day! Come downstairs and have your breakfast! We've played the Bane Bane Game!" Jolted awake, I yelled at Matt to check the time. He was meant to be at the office by 9 today, and I was so upset that we'd somehow slept through our alarm. Prayer for My Children

We have a definite bedtime routine at the Roden house. In fact, our routine really begins when Matt arrives home from work. I finish up dinner while Matt plays with the kids, we eat dinner with devotions, do a quick pick-up just to get the dishwasher running, head out for a walk or go to the playground, and return for baths and bedtime.  The kids love to take a bath together, and there is much splashing and laughter before I scoop Will out of the tub to get him ready for bed while Matt helps Sophie finish up. Will loves listening to stories during the day, but he is usually a little too fried at bedtime for books. So after enjoying his wet squishy-ness, kissing him like crazy, and wrestling him into his pajamas, I sit with Will in the rocker, sing "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and pray for my son...   Meanwhile, Matt has helped Sophie dry off and get into her pjs .
