Will's First Birthday Celebration


This is sooo very late, but I actually started it months ago, and just realized I never posted it! I'm planning on printing the blog into memory books for the kids, so I wanted to be sure I included Will's first birthday!


Will celebrated his first birthday on February 6, and we spent a special day as a family at the aquarium and then the playground at Centennial Olympic Park. We waited to have his party in Franklin on February 20. I wanted to record the details of his first birthday party, as I did for Sophie, though hers was in the form of a letter not on a blog. I love that our family loves to celebrate, and Will's "Big Top Birthday Party" was perfect for our big boy!

Theme: Circus, including Patti-Grams as the "ringmaster," Aunt Tori as the
"popcorn lady,"(complete with real popcorn maker) and Aunt Hope as "Hopey-the-Clown."



Decorations: Circus banner, home-made "Big Top" crafted by Aunt Tori, circus stuffed
animals, and red and white table cloth and balloons.












Food - We had circus foods - hotdogs, chips, and corn on the cob! Not the healthiest meal, but lots of fun, and Will loved it!






Cake: round, white polka-dotted cake, over which Aunt Tori built a circus tent. Will also had his own "personal cake" to which he enjoyed full access!

Activities: "Ball Hunt' - tons of colored balls were all of Patti-Grams' floor, and each child had a
bag to gather as many as possible. (Will mostly watched and
crawled around in the circus-like atmosphere!) "Name That Animal" - Matt was in charge of this one, and he acted like various circus animals while the children tried to guess which one (hilarious!) "Clown-Says" - Aunt Hope was in charge of this one, and it bore a striking resemblance to "Simon-Says," but since the majority of our guests were under four, "Clown-Says" proved to be the most challenging game of the night!




Party Favors - We gave each of Will's friends a treat bag, cotton candy and of course, Barnum's Animal Crackers!


Once again, Will's party was made possible by Aunt Tori, our amazing event planner, and her amazing partner in crime and everything else, our future Uncle Derek! Tori has planned all of my kids' birthdays, and I know I am incredibly blessed! I basically throw out a theme, and she takes it from there!

We are so thankful for all the friends and family who helped us celebrate our big one-year-old! Will was showered with love! He had a great time, and I will forever treasure the memory of his first birthday party!

Sophie's 8th Birthday

Sophie had one of her most perfect days on her 8th birthday, and I loved that we were able to give her a dream-come-true day! She woke up to a birthday breakfast, but without our typical doughnuts because we were headed straight for the Franklin Farmer's Market. We showered her with art supplies and an Ariel birthday sign, and she was thrilled about all of them!  At the Farmer's Market, Sophie roamed around like the gypsy she is, thrilled to have $10 (instead of her usual $5) to spend! You can't imagine how much Sophie can buy with $10 at the Farmer's Market! When honey sticks are going for a quarter, that can make for a long day! Happy 31st Birthday!

Happy 31st Birthday Matt! Most people say things like, "I can hardly believe it's been a year since we fill-in-the blank... My, where does the time go???" Well, I know where the time since your last birthday has gone. It's been right here backing over us like a mack truck! All I can think as I remember last Halloween is how has it only been one year since you were celebrating your 30th birthday by going to a Halloween bash designed for teenagers while Aunt Pam and I took the kids trick-or-treating in the rain? The Bane Bane Game

This was one of the last things I saw before collapsing in the bed last night. I went to check on Soph and Will, and when I saw them holding hands asleep, I almost heard God laughing-ly whisper, "this blessing was brought to you courtesy of the condo!" So, I went downstairs, grabbed the camera, and whispered back my thanks for children that are getting to, not having to experience sharing a room. Several hours later (though I would have sworn it was only a few minutes), I'm sleeping peacefully, with Lillie and Matt tucked in beside me, only to see two grinning roosters, loudly crowing, "Happy Bane Bane Day! Happy Bane Bane Day! Come downstairs and have your breakfast! We've played the Bane Bane Game!" Jolted awake, I yelled at Matt to check the time.
