Sophie's Dramatic Debut as Mrs. Noah

Sandwiched in between Tori's wedding weekend and Hope's graduation weekend, was Sophie's end-of-the-year program and dance recital. Sophie was over-the-moon excited about her dramatic debut!

Sophie was cast as Mrs. Noah, and the big news was that Mrs. Noah had lines that had to be memorized and spoken into the microphone! We practiced for weeks (Matt and I almost never got the Arky Arky song out of our heads), and the teachers at Sophie's amazing school, Master's Academy of Fine Arts, had the students more than prepared for the performance. The play Sophie was in included only four, five and six year olds, and I was amazed that children that young were able to perform that well. The play highlighted the major historical events the students learned about this year while they studied the Ancient Period.

I really couldn't believe what a good job Sophie did. I knew that we had practiced and that she knew her part backward and forward, but I thought shyness might overcome her once she stepped on the stage. Well, that was not the case! Sophie has apparently inherited her dad's comfort with the limelight and love of a hot mic! (For just a second, I was afraid she might start adding to her part!) She belted her lines, spoke with enthusiasm and clarity and sang and danced her little heart out! (We were stifling laughs because we could hear her singing above many of her classmates!)

She also had a ballet performance after the play. While this year's recital was not nearly as big a deal as last year's, Sophie still had
fun and did a great job! The best part of the day for Sophie was getting flowers from her best friend, Jack!

I am so glad Sophie is attending a school that can help her develop the gifts God has given her. I have to say that I was genuinely proud of my little girl, particularly of her confidence. I was also so thankful to the teachers that gave so much of their time and energy and acted as positive "other voices" in Sophie's life.

School is out, but we are already looking forward to next year when Soph will start kindergarten and study the Medieval/Renaissance period. Our family has been so blessed by Sophie's school. Truly we couldn't have designed a place more well-suited for Sophie, and we can't wait for her to continue at MAFA and Cordis Academy!
