Will's World at 15 months

Things I am loving about my 15-month, 31-pound wonder boy...
Correction: 15 months, 32 pounds...learned yesterday during our first trip to the ER...
  • I love that his favorite new trick is to "carry" me on his shoulders. He bends down under my legs, gets one of my legs over each of his shoulders and walks as I walk "carrying" me all over the house. He giggles the whole time, and rarely does a day go by that I don't get three or four "rides" on Will's shoulders. He beams when I tell him how big and strong he is! 
  • Will is crazy-passionate about books. While Will's love of books developed a little later than Sophie's did, his seems to be more intense. From a young age, Sophie loved to be read to, and was ready and willing whenever we were. We spent lots of time reading to her, and when we weren't reading to her, she was happy to sit and
 "read" to herself. Will drags books around and fusses, yells, and if need be, cries until we sit down. He then, with full force, plops himself into a lap and insists upon being read to. I must confess that on a particularly busy morning, I tried to hide his favorites until I was dressed. His current favorites include I Love You Through and Through, Charlie Parker Played Bebop, Wishes for You, Rattletrap Car, Moo Baa La La La, Yo, Yes!, Big Little,Yummy Yucky, and Yes Yes, No No. He is learning to enjoy books on his own, but if he spies an able-bodied reader, he will chase you down with his book of choice!

  • Will is super inquisitive. His first (and so far, only) sentence was "What is that?" But most of the time "dis," "dat," "What dis?" and "What dat?" seem to be rolling off his tongue. On a recent stroll through a parking lot, Will insisted on asking about each and every car in the lot. Not knowing one thing about cars, I just had to go with "blue car," "red car" etc. (Last week in Barnes and Noble, he was having me read a book that had pictures and names of different cars, and he kept coming back and asking "what dat" to the picture of the Porche 911! 
  • Will's laugh sounds like a college frat boy who has just pulled off some type of hazing prank. He mostly snickers, but even his chuckle is full of mischief. It is so funny to hear Sophie and Will laughing together because Sophie still laughs like she's 18 months old, so to hear them together, you would never guess Will was the baby of the family!
  • Will is all about giving love these days. Will has always been a cuddly guy, but lately he kisses and hugs without any prompting. Of course, with Will you never know when a kiss will turn into a bite (just look at he marks on my shoulders), but I love watching him learning to express his feelings. It is amazing to watch a creature who has 
  • previously only been a receiver of love become a giver of love!

Sophie's 8th Birthday

Sophie had one of her most perfect days on her 8th birthday, and I loved that we were able to give her a dream-come-true day! She woke up to a birthday breakfast, but without our typical doughnuts because we were headed straight for the Franklin Farmer's Market. We showered her with art supplies and an Ariel birthday sign, and she was thrilled about all of them!  At the Farmer's Market, Sophie roamed around like the gypsy she is, thrilled to have $10 (instead of her usual $5) to spend! You can't imagine how much Sophie can buy with $10 at the Farmer's Market! When honey sticks are going for a quarter, that can make for a long day! It was hotter than blue blazes, and we'd brought Aunt Tori, Uncle Derek, Aunt Hope, and Zoe, so over half our crew had to head inside The Factory before Soph had finished her shopping, but not before we all enjoyed treats and lunch from Biscuit Love!  After the Farmer's Market, we all head to Honey's, a new candy

Happy 31st Birthday!

Happy 31st Birthday Matt! Most people say things like, "I can hardly believe it's been a year since we fill-in-the blank... My, where does the time go???" Well, I know where the time since your last birthday has gone. It's been right here backing over us like a mack truck! All I can think as I remember last Halloween is how has it only been one year since you were celebrating your 30th birthday by going to a Halloween bash designed for teenagers while Aunt Pam and I took the kids trick-or-treating in the rain? It seems like at least three years ago since you and I were in the house with a princess throwing a fit about something while Aunt Pam was on the front porch knocking on the door to let us know our dragon had just made himself throw up to avoid wearing his costume. With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

"The boy" turned five, and it came as no surprise to anyone who's had a conversation with him in the past year that he wanted a superhero birthday party! He's fairly obsessed with all things superhero, and his absolutely favorite is Spiderman. Will had a great actual birthday (Matt stayed home from work, we went to an indoor play park where he ran into a buddy, and then we celebrated with the family at Aunt Pammie's). But his birthday party was like watching his dreams come true. We had superhero training at an indoor play park, but in reality, it was he and his buddies, playing their hearts out being as rough as they could be and then topping it off with cake, lemonade, and sno-cones! Of course, Mr. glass half-empty nearly had a meltdown because his party was "too short," but at least I knew that he had the time of his life!
